Sketch Writing Workshop
$100.00

This is a 6 week class running March 28th - May 2nd on Thursday evenings 6-8pm @ work.shop (160 Winston Dr.)
Description
Ever done an improv scene that you wish could last forever, in written form? This is the class for you! Sketch is a natural extension of improv because both require “finding the game” in a scene, but in sketch we can go much further. After an introduction, participants will bring drafts of sketches to be read aloud, staged and “workshopped” in class. Finally, each participant will choose one sketch to revise for a staged reading, and our last session will be dedicated to rehearsing and fine-tuning the revised sketches. Then a big fun sketch show!
In this workshop you will learn to...
Brainstorm, revise and polish your writing
Create bold, interesting scenes
Give constructive feedback
Collaborate with others
Gain a deeper appreciation for comedic artforms
Meet other people interested in sketch comedy, i.e. potential collaborators
Recommendations
While the emphasis will be on writing, not performing, improv experience will be helpful; accordingly, preference will be given to participants who have taken a class or two (or four!) from Flying Squid. And the workshop will be capped at eight, to make sure everyone’s writing gets enough attention.
